Moving into your new world – the non-messy way
Moving is a tedious part in the whole process of starting a new life at your new home. We have listed a few points to consider to make your moving process easy and hassle-free.
Plan in Advance
The first thing to do is making a list of all items and put them into different categories. Mark fragile items and items which are handled with care in the list. Check for any special instructions for dismantling and moving of fridge, washing machine etc. Look for a way to get rid of the items that you don’t want to carry to your new home. You may think of doing a garage sale to make some extra money. Some goods can be offered to your friends or relatives at a price or free. Giving away goods to charity organisations is also a good option. Organise a garbage pick-up by contacting your local council.
In kitchen, you have to start using and finish perishable items. Especially, you need to cook the items in the freezer. Throw away any item that passed the expiry date.
Another main concern is organize schooling transfers of your kids. Check out nearby child care centre, fitness centre, sports activities etc. for admissions. Contact Australia Post and ask them to redirect your mail to your new address from the date of moving.
Arrange in advance for service connections –
• Telephone and Internet connection
• Gas, Electricity and water
• Paid television connections like Foxtel
Check their service providers and inform the company to transfer the services in to your name from the day of moving, if you want to go with them. If you want to change the service providers or if you would like to continue the one existed in your old home, it is better to act early so that you will be ready to go from day one at new place.
You may prepare a table to have all the following information handy:
Land Phone, Mobile, Internet, Pay TV, Water, Gas, Electricity
Suppose your Loan is unconditionally approved and you are waiting for the settlement. This is time to plan how you are going to move to new house. You may feel that it is too early do a planning. However, it is a good practice to have a rough plan in place. Make sure you don’t confirm the dates with anyone as settlement delay is quite common in the property arena.
If you want to keep your goods in a self-storage arrangement for a while, search and find out an affordable provider.
Decide whether you are going to appoint a mover or removalist to execute the task. If so, enquire their procedures and book in a tentative date. You should check with them about any costs for rescheduling the dates. Check the mover about their system and cost. Make sure they have insurance. Does their service include packing etc.
If you are planning to move it yourself, you need to book the right size truck. Consider hiring a trolley as well to make moving heavy items easier.
